Vera and Victoria: Intimate photographs that reveal the beauty of their relationship

"Vera confessed to Victoria that she was transsexual the day they kissed for the first time. It was in a park. It did not change anything," remarks Spanish photographer Mar Sáez.

Photographed between 2012 and 2016, her award-winning series portrays the daily life of Vera and Victoria and the beauty of their relationship: their love, dreams, hopes and fears in a world still trying to catch up with their reality.

On show at Hong Kong's f22 foto space next month, the exhibition is Mar's her first in Asia and will reveal her portrayal of cultural identity. Also on display are images from her To The Travellers series, which came about after Mar decided to travel through Spain in 2015. From that experience, she met a lot of strangers and realised that many of us share the same worries, fears and loneliness in lives. "Feeling like I was from here, but also from there. Almost always feeling like I was from nowhere," she says.

Both series are available in books, which will be on sale at the exhibition next month. Mar Sáez runs from 11 September to 23 November 2019 at f22 foto space in Wan Chai, Hong Kong. To find out more about Mar, visit marsaez.com.
