Marietta Varga's latest series is dedicated to the memory of a deceased couple
A few months ago, photographer Marietta Varga had the opportunity to visit the home of a deceased couple whom she didn't know. The experience inspired her latest series.

Standing in their home, without their own permission, surrounded by their personal objects, Marietta apparently had a paradoxical feeling. "I felt guilty but I was curious at the same time," she tells Creative Boom. "I was sorrowful but also excited. I was thinking, is it possible to get to know people, at least a little bit, through their personal objects, through the traces they leave behind themselves? What can objects, and the way they are left, tell about their owners?"
From her thoughts and observations, she created The Stranger I Know – getting into character and photographing herself amongst the property's rooms, furniture and treasures. "The photographs are dedicated to the memory of the couple who lived in this home. It is an experiment to connect with people through their personal objects," she adds.
