Following the huge success of its first year, the Awards celebrate the very best historic places and cultural sites across the globe, from the most famous national treasures to the more obscure hidden gems. They literally offer a window to the world like never before; to hardcore history enthusiasts or those who simply wish to capture wonderful imagery of incredible places from our past.

Judging all entries will be a panel of experts including broadcaster and historian Dan Snow of History Hit TV. He said: "Exploring the history around us truly opens our eyes to the wonders that sit on our doorstep. Last year’s awards were a testament to that experience, as the quality of entries was not only astounding but also highlighted a host of incredible historic places across the globe. And with this year’s awards now even bigger and better, there’s never been a more exciting opportunity to get out exploring to capture those inspirational places from the past."

This year will see the introduction of several specialist categories focusing on crucial periods and regions of history, including an English History category, in partnership with Historic England, and HISTORY’s Short Filmmaker of the Year.

Entries will be judged on originality, composition and technical proficiency alongside the story behind the submission and its historical impact. By taking part, photographers will get the chance to win a first prize of £1,000 and have their winning image showcased across the media.
