Distressed Wood: The wonderfully creepy sculptures of Paul Kaptein

These images of work by Perth-based artist Paul Kaptein might look like they've been deliberately warped and distorted in Photoshop. But in fact, this is exactly what his unnerving and somewhat creepy sculptures, created using laminated, hand-carved wood and graphite, actually look like.

We've already featured Kaptein's work before on Creative Boom, but we make no apologies for returning to this astonishing artist and sharing his latest creations once again.

Most recently on show at the Bankwest Art Gallery in Perth, Kaptein's latest sculptures are entitled, from top to bottom, The smell of rain, Mute Figure #1, Mute Figure #2 and Mute Figure #3 (three images of each).
