‘Master of Leica’ Ara Güler captures images of a past Turkey
Photojournalist Ara Güler might not sound familiar, but he's known by many as one of the greatest photojournalists of his time, working for TIME Life, Paris Match and Magnum Photos and more.

Specialising in photographing the daily lives of Turkey’s working class through the years, he also worked as a portrait photographer, capturing some of the most famous faces of the 20th century, including Pablo Picasso, John Berger, Winston Churchill and Alfred Hitchcock.
Istanbul-born Güler died late last year at the ripe old age of 90, and a new show at the Saatchi Gallery looks to honour his important legacy through showcasing a huge range of his striking images from shots of Istanbul and scenes from Anatolia to photographs across the world, alongside a selection of significant historical portraits.
The Ara Güler exhibition runs from now until 5 May at Saatchi Gallery, London. Following this, Güler’s work will be exhibited in Paris, Kyoto, New York, Rome and Mogadishu, respectively.
