Human sculptures by Bruno Walpoth made entirely from wood

Bruno Walpoth is someone who creates extraordinary human sculptures made entirely of wood. Working harmoniously with the grain, the textural imperfections of the sculptures almost pay homage to the spirit of the trees from which they came – perhaps suggesting that humans are at one with nature.

It is for this reason that Walpoth uses semi-translucent paint to coat his works, ensuring that the wood grains stay visible. Each sculpture offers a serene view on humanity, as all of the figures seem to be pensive and lost in thought.

This beautiful work is the result of Walpoth's childhood, having grown up with a family of distinguished woodcarvers. He followed in his grandfathers' footsteps for his own craft, but transforming solid slabs of wood into intricately detailed figures in the likeness of men and women.
