When you look at these portraits of women, what do you see? For New York photographer Sherrie Nickol, she sees a quiet and appealing confidence, one that reveals strength of character.

Face to Face is just one of her latest projects, and aims to document the confidence of women. In recent years, Sherrie has been exploring the relationships between people and their environments and her ongoing body of work, entitled The Citizen Project, is a series of portraits of real people photographed in her studio. After capturing more than a thousand people, the project came to fruition with the launch of Citizenstock.com.
Sherrie studied photography at the University of Cincinnati and later at the International Center of Photography in New York City. She works out of her NOHO studio in NYC where she manages both her fine art projects and her commercial clients, including Canon, The Wall Street Journal, Wal-Mart, Philips, GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi, Bayer, Columbia University, JP Morgan Chase and YMCA.
