The deadline for UK-based artists to apply for the VIA Arts Prize is fast approaching

The final call out for UK-based artists of any nationality for submissions to the VIA Arts Prize, which "seeks to promote the considerable global and historical reach of Latin American and Iberian culture", has been made, with a deadline of 30 September.

It’s free to submit your work; and all pieces must be inspired by artistic or cultural expressions from Latin America, Spain or Portugal. "Applicants must clearly demonstrate how the work is inspired by this particular artist, artwork or cultural expression within their application," said the prize organisers, and add they must not be replicas of pre-existing works.

The winner receives £5,000 from prize sponsor Itaù and a solo show at the Embassy of Brazil next year. Second place wins £2,000 and the final 30 shortlisted works will feature in a group show at the Embassy this November.

Most disciplines are welcomed, including across painting; sculpture; photography; mixed media/assemblage; collage; drawing; engraving; digital print (non-photographic); and textiles and tapestry. Film and performance art pieces are not accepted.

"Each artist or collaborative partnership can submit only one piece of work," say the organisers. "Submissions must be made by individuals only, not institutions, and can be solo or collaborative."
