Curated by Susanna Cordner, 'Piecemakers' will delve into the work lives of seven established makers - Gina, Jessica Buttons by Mabo, Cactus Leather, Rare Thread, F.Ciment Pleating Ltd, Jenny King Embroidery and Black Horse Lane Atelier, whose clients include the likes of McQueen, Erdem and Vivienne Westwood.
Offering a rare insight into the maker’s everyday working environment, specialised tools will be displayed alongside text, imagery and candid studio footage which will demonstrate the many steps and sophisticated processes of making.
“Piecemakers will highlight and celebrate the often hidden roles makers and manufacturers play in producing the sought after garments we see featured in campaigns and catwalks across the globe," explains curator Susanna Cordner. "By showcasing the everyday tools these makers use, alongside imagery of their studios and factory floors, visitors will get a glimpse into their world and the skills it takes to produce these often overlooked elements.”
Piecemakers takes place at Fashion Space Gallery at London College of Fashion, UAL, from 11 October until 11 January.
