NOW: National programme celebrates female Chinese contemporary artists

Taking place throughout February, the collaborative series of exhibitions, commissions and events will be based at five distinct art organisations across the UK, including Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art in Manchester; Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art; Nottingham Contemporary and Turner Contemporary in Margate.

You can expect to see artists such as Na Buqi, Wi Chao, Ye Funa, Yang Guangnan, Ma Qiusha, Li Shurui, Luo Wei, Hu Xiaoyuan, Shen Xin, Yin Xiuzhen, Duan Jianyu and Geng Xue. There will also be an art film series at HOME in Manchester and a symposium hosted by Tate Research Centre: Asia in London.

The aim of NOW is to re-open a dialogue on the way female artists are currently positioning themselves in China. It will also reveal how the rapid transformation of contemporary China has provided new transcultural opportunities and possibilities for female artists.
