Gilbert & George serve art on a plate to help feed London’s homeless

It's part of Double Helpings, a new charity art project by The Canvas Cafe in collaboration with creative agency Wieden+Kennedy London to support the community's most vulnerable.

The artists, working with heritage Stoke-On-Trent pottery Duchess China, have produced two plates, both of which feature technicolour designs. Entitled 'On the Bench' and 'Rosy', the plates are made up of pictures from Gilbert & George's latest show, The Paradiscial Pictures at Spruth Magers in Los Angeles.

The branding and identity were created by Wieden+Kennedy London and pay homage to past makers' marks. The hand-drawn mark and font by Design Director Karen Jane depict two long spoons in reference to the ancient parable where those in heaven are sated only because they co-operate and feed each other.

Ruth Rogers, Founder of The Canvas Cafe, said: "We believe humans are amazing; you just need to give them the opportunity to be so. This new project certainly does that, offering people a truly tangible and beautiful way of directly supporting people in need."
