Did you know the Rijksmuseum has a huge impact online as well as offline? The museum welcomes more than 2 million visitors a year and reaches as many as 70 million people online. Are you ready to contribute to projects that will introduce even more people to the Rijksmuseum?
The Digital Marketing & Campaigns subdepartment is looking for an intern Content Creator from 1 February 2027, for 36 hours a week, for five or six months. You will intern in the content team, focusing on TikTok and short-form video. Under the guidance of our content creatives, you will learn what it means to create content for a major museum: how to turn an artwork or story into a video that works, how to collaborate with curators and other departments, and how to find the voice of the Rijksmuseum. You will have room to experiment, try out your own ideas and gradually take on more on your own. Think of filming in the Gallery of Honour before the doors open, a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of a painting, or reporting on events such as After Hours.
What you'll be doing
- Keeping track of what is happening on social media, and coming up with and making short TikTok videos, from idea to editing to publication
- Going into the museum with a phone and microphone: filming in the galleries, approaching visitors for street interviews and capturing what happens behind the scenes
- Creating visual content, such as photos, carousels and stories for Instagram and our other channels
- Doing webcare: responding to comments and messages on our social channels in the Rijksmuseum's tone of voice
- Helping with content planning and supporting the team with ongoing video series and campaigns
What we're looking for
- Someone who not only watches TikTok and Instagram but also makes it – you have ideas, you pick up your phone and you get to work
- You are not afraid to approach a stranger or to stand in front of the camera yourself
- You are interested in art and culture, but you do not need to be an art historian – curiosity matters more
- You are currently enrolled in a creative education programme, for example at an art academy, film academy, journalism programme or creative business programme
- Experience filming and editing on a phone or laptop (e.g. CapCut, Premiere Pro or similar)
- You know the language of TikTok: trends, hooks, sounds and what makes people keep watching
- Very good spoken and written Dutch and English
- You preferably live in or around (greater) Amsterdam
What's on offer
- An internship allowance of €550 a month
- Support from day one from your buddy, who will teach you the ins and outs of the job; interns also form a supportive network among themselves
- A comprehensive internship document explaining the daily and weekly work in detail
- A clear plan at the start, with your internship learning goals discussed together
- The opportunity to gain experience at the museum of the Netherlands
- Participation in various events and sports activities, such as the summer and winter celebrations
How to apply
Apply online through the Rijksmuseum website. The closing date is 22 November 2026, though the vacancy may close earlier if enough applications arrive. First interviews take place on Monday 30 November.
