Striking feminist illustrations by Amber Vittoria are bright and characterful

A designer and illustrator based in NYC, her career has involved projects for some of the world's most renowned brands, including The New York Times, Saks Fifth Avenue, Adidas, Teen Vogue, Man Repeller, and Lenny Letter (the brainchild of Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner).

Speaking of her work, Vittoria explains: "My work is rooted in femininity and the female form. Through rounded blocks of colour and thick, hairy strokes, it works to break the societal expectation and assumption on women in both the physical and emotional realm.

"Combining both digital and traditional approaches, I begin by rudimentarily blocking out colourful shapes in Photoshop. Once the forms begin to work with each other, I then print the digital component on a laser-jet printer, yielding a muted texture. Once printed, I apply the detail (facial expressions, hands, feet, hair) with a brush pen."
