Ethereal paintings of mountains by Jan Sebastian Koch that pay homage to his adopted home of Norway

Away from Oslo and Bergen close to the Arctic circle, there are few people and hardly any sound apart from the wind. You get a sense of this peaceful emptiness when you step back and observe Jan's serene and ethereal colour-field paintings.

From polar landscapes and melting ice caps that shift with the changing seasons to the first sprig of flora awakening through melted snow, Jan's works are poetic, powerful, and deceptively simple with pastel planes and cerulean hues suggesting a mountain, a body of water, or a rocky outreach.

On reflection, his artworks are almost spiritual. Jan states that working in such solitude and with such focus has introduced him to a sense of "profound humility, a whole new connection to nature and, happiness" and "a sort of internal purification that comes through the cleansing air and crystalline blue skies".
