Hollie Fuller's lovable characters with distinctive stick-out ears and wobbly limbs

It might take years to accomplish, but for recent graduate Hollie Fuller, she has already achieved that milestone. With wiggly limbs and stand-out big ears, her drawn characters are bold, lovable and – more importantly – instantly recognisable as her own.

How did she find such a distinctive style? "I think it happened quite naturally during my time at uni. I spent a lot of time drawing people in different ways until something felt right. In that time I made so many awful drawings and I think that can be just as important as making good ones. I hope that my characters are recognisable as being my own."

Originally from Lincolnshire, Fuller graduated from Leeds Arts University with a first-class degree in Illustration. What did she learn most from her education? "I learnt how important it is to surround yourself with nice, supportive people. I gained a lot of confidence and learnt a lot about myself, both on a personal level and as an illustrator."

We especially love her degree show project: a publication called OMW! about a cowboy named Colin and an eco journey that he takes using various modes of transport. Or there's a project for The Hepworth Wakefield about their recent Yorkshire Sculpture International exhibition, encouraging people to think differently about sculpture.

What is Fuller planning to do next? "I'd love to keep up the momentum with a balance of different projects. I'm always developing ideas and drawing loads of characters; I think there are lots of possibilities and directions that I could go in, so I'm excited to see what's next."
