How to market yourself as a designer, with Craig Black

Craig Black is a Scottish-born graphic designer, lettering artist and typographer who has worked tirelessly over the last five years to build his own design studio in his hometown of Gourock.

One of the hardest working creative professionals we know, Craig has captured the attention of the creative industries with his bold and innovative typographic illustrations, murals and installations, and his work has been celebrated and published internationally – not just in Creative Boom but in Computer Arts, Creative Review and IdN Magazine.

Craig followed the usual route to London after graduation, working for a number of big agencies before deciding to go it alone and return home to Scotland. He lives in a small seaside town near Glasgow where he grew up and values his family and friends as being the reason why he's able to enjoy his work so much.

Always passionate to help others and give back to the creative community, he's also the co-founder and creative director of Creative Inverclyde, a social enterprise that aims to use creativity to push positive social change on his own doorstep.

Before lockdown began, Craig generously travelled to Manchester to meet us and chat about everything he's been up to and how he manages to be everywhere online. Here, he shares some of the secrets to his success, including some helpful ideas to boost productivity, improve mental wellbeing and achieve your goals. This is an eye-opening, utterly honest treat that will leave you feeling energised and ready to take on anything.
