PolyWood: Clever concepts of wooden toy animals rendered in polygons

Looking at these beautiful toy animals, you would think they were hand-crafted out of real wood. In actual fact, they are clever digital concepts dreamed up by Polish freelance illustrator and 3D artist, Mat Szulik – purely as a personal project that he carried out in his spare time.

Born out of a desire to explore his low poly style, and push it to the absolute extreme – he wanted to create a product design that would be as close to the real thing as possible. Naming the series PolyWood v1.0, the eight realistic creatures are based on polygon illustrations which have then had wooden textures applied to them.

Based in Rybnik, Poland, Mat loves to create sci-fi worlds as well as children's illustrations for books and unique board games. You can discover more of his work on Behance.
