Forget what you learnt at art school. An exhibition in Bury this month has created a new set of rules to help you be more creative.

Curated by John Rooney, Malcolm Garrett, Kat Au and John Owens of Instruct, The New Art School Rules! at Bury Art Museum rips up the traditional rule book and urges us to consider the advice and wisdom of some of the best artists and designers in the industry today.

The show, which runs until 25 January 2020, presents a new collective manifesto, one that includes more than 100 submissions sent to the museum following an open call.

Those featured include Swifty, Adrian Shaughnessy, Craig Oldham, Morag Myerscough, Ian Anderson of The Designers Republic, illustrator Marion Deuchars, Jane Plüer of Pentagram, Jane Bowyer of Women in Print fame and, of course, Malcolm Garrett – with many more on show.

As you'd expect, the nuggets of wisdom are presented in each creative's own style. Whether it's Morag urging us to get "messy" or Marion saying we should "learn something new every year", this is an exhibition full of tips and advice for those of you looking for some guidance and inspiration.

The New Art School Rules! at Bury Art Museum runs until 25 January 2020. The event is free and part of this year's Design Manchester. Find out more: designmcr.com.
