Filthy Media looks to iconic quotes from Hamlet for its latest side venture project

Brighton studio Filthy Media has designed a new fly-poster campaign, advertising a fictional production of Shakespeare's Hamlet.

It's part of an ongoing series called Filthy Thursdays where each week, the team creates bespoke typefaces and typographic campaigns for brands they'd love to work with. And so far it's worked, attracting clients such as Adidas and Brighton & Hove Albion FC.

For this latest project, Filthy wanted to demonstrate what can be achieved with a limited brief.

"We believe powerful and engaging work doesn't have to be complicated, conform to what's expected or break the budget," says Creative Director Joe Pilbeam. "Using six iconic quotes from Shakespeare's Hamlet, a grid system for structure and a single typeface for bold communication; this project shows what can be created from a few simple elements."

The campaign features the fictional 38-Gun Theatre, a name inspired by an early performance of the play. In 1607 the crew of the Red Dragon performed Hamlet while anchored off the coast of Sierra Leone. It was built like a battleship in 1595 the Red Dragon was previously named the Scourge of Malice and was equipped with an arsenal of thirty-eight guns.
