Alan Kitching, one of the world's foremost practitioners of letterpress typographic design and printmaking, is to be celebrated in a new exhibition at London's Coningsby Gallery this April. Entitled Alan Kitching: Letterpress Prints the show will acknowledge his indelible influence on, and overwhelming contribution to, the fields of print, letterpress and design.
Renowned for his expressive use of wood and metal letterforms, Kitching creates visuals for commissions and his own limited edition prints. He co-founded the Experimental Printing Workshop at Watford College of Technology in 1964.
He later became partner at Omnific Studios where he started letterpress printing. In 1994 Kitching was appointed Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) and elected member of Alliance Graphique International (AGI). Clients over the years have included Borough Market, The British Library, Creative Review, D&AD, Dazed & Confused, The Guardian, The National Theatre, Penguin Books, The Times, Royal Mail, Saatchi & Saatchi, Scheufelen Paper, Clarks Shoes, Random House, AOL and the Tate Modern.
The exhibition celebrates the launch of Alan Kitching: A Life in Letterpress the Bookshop Edition, published by Laurence King in March 2017. This beautiful monograph, filled with stunning images of the artist’s process and work, spans over fifty years of his life and career. In conjunction with this, Alan will be present for an exclusive book-signing event at the exhibition on the 15 April 2017 from 12 noon until 3pm.
Alan Kitching: Letterpress Prints will take place between 11 April - 15 April 2017 at the Coningsby Gallery. Discover more at coningsbygallery.com.
