Artist Sophie Cardin has created an art installation made entirely from cardboard for this year's Art Souterrain Festival in Montreal, Canada. The monumental anchor, which is installed in the Guy Favreau complex, is a reference to the contradiction between an anchor’s heavy weight and this anchor’s light and fragile cardboard composition. The piece "expresses how this is felt as a necessity by immigrating people, while also exploring the instability and the transitory conditions they experience".
French born artist Cardin, who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rennes, is now based in Montreal, and specialises in installation, sculpture and performances. Her works have been exhibited in France, Belgium and Russia.
