Life-like paper insects painstakingly made from fine crepe paper

Your eyes do not deceive you. These insects and plants certainly look like the real deal, but in actual fact, they are paper sculptures made out of delicate crepe paper.

Paper artist and illustrator Tina Kraus is the patient and talented person responsible for these incredibly realistic butterflies, grasshoppers, lizards and flowers. Based in Münster, Germany, where she also studied illustration at the local university, her paper artworks include pop-up books, paper toys and paper objects.

"About two years ago I started to make paper sculptures with fine crepe paper," Tina told Creative Boom. "First I made plants, then insects and one gecko. Recently I got my first commission for a praying mantis. For my crepe paper sculptures, I am trying to make them as life-like as possible."
