Here Design delivers new digest on Mid-Century Modern: Icons of Design

London-based studio Here Design has unveiled the latest release in its Mid-Century Modern: Icons of Design series with a comprehensive digest showcasing more than 90 pieces from this highly collectable style of design.

This latest book for publisher Thames & Hudson builds on the success of the Mid-Century Modern stationery set launched in 2016 which includes a set of concertina books, a collection of 100 postcards, graphic wrapping paper and a set of three notebooks.

The new digest draws on Dominic Bradbury’s 2014 book Mid-Century Modern Complete (Thames & Hudson) and explores the work of over 60 designers and design duos through original graphics that straddle the line between playful and informative, from the Eames chairs to the Morris Mini Minor and Gio Ponti bookcase.

Arranged chronologically, each entry is displayed across a double-page spread, with a full-page, original graphic illustration and an adjacent page offering a short, insightful description with words from Frances Ambler. Depicted in a soft colour palette with a clean, contemporary style sympathetic to their iconic status, these carefully-selected design icons have been presented in a new yet familiar way to drive a reappraisal of mid-century modern design.

"When you’re working with a subject matter as popular and well-documented as mid-century modern design, there’s always a challenge to ensure you’re representing the work in a way that is both fresh and engaging, but not out of step with the era to which it belongs," says Caz Hildebrand, Creative Partner.

"These are truly desirable pieces of design but sometimes such an intellectual base of work can be difficult for people to break into, so we wanted to create a book that gives a taster of this period of design and enables readers to begin exploring the movement in more detail at their own leisure."
