Sophisticated figurative artworks that celebrate femininity by Oslo-based artist Charlie Roberts

In his series Halcyon Daze – Oslo, Norway-based artist Charlie Roberts presents intimate figurative gouache on paper works, exhibited in a solo show at the Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles. Exploring a softer, more mature theme to his usual marriage of historical art with pop culture references and a dash of hip-hop thrown in; he instead delivers sophisticated nude portraits of women. It's a new direction for Roberts – but one that still hints at his love of classic contemporary greats, almost as though they tumbled out of a Matisse painting and into the 21st century.

Born in 1984, Roberts attended the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Canada and has exhibited internationally at David Risley Gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark, Galerie Magnus Karlsson in Stockholm, Sweden and Vous Etes Ici in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In the Summer of 2008, Roberts was included in Sonsbeek 2008: "Grandeur, the 10th international group exhibition of sculpture" in Arnhem, The Netherlands.
