Luminous: Frea Buckler's screen printed explosion of colourful geometric shapes

Luminous is a new solo exhibition at Smithson Gallery in Shoreditch by British female artist Frea Buckler, filled with dynamic shapes, blazing colour and dreamlike luminosity – a result of Frea's investigation of "possibility from limitations".

The show, which kicks off from one week from 21 July, will include Frea's sculptures alongside her unique geometric screen prints.

Speaking of the artist, the Gallery said: "Frea embraces chance and rejects planning, preferring to work instinctively, creating multiple works derived from the limitation of one single shape. She prints with perfection and uniformity, employing flat colour and sharp edges. Her work is reminiscent of the geometric abstraction movement, drawing inspiration from the likes of Carmen Herrera and Agnes Martin."

Frea studied Fine Art Printmaking and Photomedia at Central Saint Martins followed by an MA in Multidisciplinary Printmaking at The University of the West of England. Her work has been selected twice for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, 2014 and 2016, and she has had two sell-out shows in 2016. Frea’s prints are becoming highly collectable, with buyers often coming back to add to their collection.

Luminous will run for one week from 21 July 2017 at the Smithson Gallery on Curtain Road, Shoreditch.
