It was probably the best decision of her career when Jen Lewis decided to combine her two greatest passions: cycling and illustration. Not only has she been selling beautiful fine art prints via her online shop, but she also just completed a special series for the Union Cycliste Internationale for World Bicycle Day.
Pulling together some moments from sporting history as well as celebrating our everyday love of cycling, her illustrations were created for a social media campaign – one that would end up attracting over 30,000 likes on Instagram alone.
"Initially, the brief was to create one illustration in a montage form showing all the different cycling disciplines," Jen explains. "But I was unsure how this would work especially showing people close together with the current social distancing guidelines. So it got rebriefed and one illustration turned into 11 to go out on all their different cycling channels."
Working to a tight deadline, Jen had two weeks to produce the series. "The UCI was wonderful and supplied me with several photographs to use as a reference, some of which I didn't think would work and I suggested alternatives. It all went very smoothly in the end and they had only one amendment!"
