Blok Design takes inspiration from Santiago's culture to craft an identity for a new scheme

Blok Design looked to the architecture, arts and culture of Santiago to create this vibrant identity for a new scheme in the heart of the Chilean capital.

MUT – short for Mercado Urbano Tobalaba – is set to be built over the city's main Metro station and promises to bring new shops, offices and green space to the local community.

Led by Vanessa Eckstein, founder and creative director of Blok, the brand honours its sense of place with mid-century style typography inspired by local iconography and warm and "homely" hues of blues and oranges taking their cues from the Chilean landscapes and textiles. We especially like the circular stamp logo spelling out the acronym.

The identity has since been rolled out onto a new website and marketing materials, as well as a magazine. The Toronto studio also commissioned photographs to depict a buzzing community full of life – from local shopkeepers through to kids skateboarding the local streets, the imagery brings it all together.
