10 summer necklaces by independent jewellery designers
Earlier this year, we brought you a recommended list of independent jewellery designers. It proved so popular that we've decided to unearth some of the best summer necklaces by these crafters and makers – some from that original list, others newly discovered.
From the higher end to the quirky and unusual, these finds are unlikely to be seen on anyone else. So if you fancy treating yourself and holding on to whatever sunshine we have left this year, whilst supporting a fellow creative, then take a look at our top picks to proudly wear around your neck.
1. Follow The Sun Necklace by Adriana Chede
Featuring one yellow diamond, Adriana Chede's Follow The Sun necklace symbolises brightness and positivity. As Chede explains, "It reminds us of the warming, rejuvenating sensation of rays washing over our skin, welcoming the sun on each new morning, full of power and light."
Handmade with recycled sustainable 9 carat gold in Chede's London atelier, the pendant consists of a solid gold round pendant (11mm) with hand-engraved detailing, finished with one yellow diamond (0.02ct), hung on a solid gold square diamond cut belcher chain, 18 inches in length. Priced at £405.
2. Sun Dance Necklace by Tatty Devine X Morag Myerscough
"Dancing is a joyful place to be and we need more of it," says Morag Myerscough when talking of her Sun Dance Necklace, a collaboration with Tatty Devine. With heaps of colour, pleasing geometric shapes and Myerscough's recurring symbol of sun, the piece is laser cut in FSC certified birch plywood and both hand-painted and digitally printed in happy shades of orange, yellow and pink. Hand-linked together and suspended from an adjustable gold-tone chain, complete with an official Tatty Devine X Morag Myerscough tag. The promise is that you'll spread a little happiness everywhere you go. Priced at £125.
3. Swimming Pool Necklace by Tiny Scenic
Currently taking a short break (but back soon) is Tiny Scenic, an independent brand by Jo Strange and Andrew Rees from Winchester, UK. Their handmade jewellery has a "mid-century picture-postcard vibe" and will appeal to those who love the pastel-coloured hues of Miami's Art Deco buildings mixed in with some 1950s Americana.
We love their mid-century little houses in delicate pinks or greens. But for the purpose of this article, we've selected their swimming pool necklace; one that sparks that immediate happy memory of holidays in the sun. We also love their little wooden ice cream stand, as shown above. There are lots to choose from, so add them to your favourites, ready for when they return from their own summer break.
4. Cherry Necklace by Mood Good
Mood Good, an independent jewellery brand founded in 2017 by Rosie Greener, has created a necklace for those carefree summer days: one that is a cherry on top of any outfit. Designed and made ethically from recycled metals in small workshops around east London, you can choose from sterling silver or 18ct gold for this stunning Cherry Necklace. Priced from £135.
5. Statement Necklace by Julia de Klerk
A happy and fun lightweight statement necklace by jewellery designer, Julia de Klerk, perfect for summer or any time of year. This bold necklace is part of a limited set that includes heart charm earrings and larger statement earrings. The collection brings together 1980s style abstract shapes with a bold red heart. Made from frosted acrylic that has been embellished textures from laser-etched illustrations and assembled with sterling silver findings. Priced at £75 and an Etsy Pick.
6. Flower Pin Necklace by Yam
Morgan Thomas is the founder of Yam, an Astoria-based jewellery studio that sells unique necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings that are handmade using upcycled materials. She was one of the ones we featured in our recommended list of jewellery designers. For our pick of summer necklaces, we recommend the Flower Pin by Yam. Endearing recycled brass/bronze or sterling silver pendant on a delicate chain. Available with sterling silver or 14k gold fill chain. Handcarved from wax and cast in New York. Priced at $124.
7. Sol Necklace by Nagle and Sisters
This gorgeous Sol Necklace is by Nagle and Sisters, a brand founded by, you guessed it, three sisters: Sophie, Dominique and Chloé. The piece is acid-etched for a weathered and rustic feel, and is a reversible medallion that roughens up the classic coin necklace. On one side, you'll find a hand-etched sunburst, whilst on the other the brand's signature triangle. Priced at £110.
8. Starfish Necklace by Lee Renee Jewellery
This Starfish Necklace by Lee Renee reminds us of beach holidays, crashing waves and dazzling sunsets. It has a gorgeous textured surface that sparkles and catches the light, making it a perfect summer accessory. Handmade in Hatton Garden, London from recycled precious metals, you can choose from three options: sterling silver, 18ct gold vermeil or 9ct solid gold. Priced from £79.
9. Pineapple Necklace by Vinci Woman
Support another independent jewellery maker by snapping up this minimalist pineapple necklace by Norwich-based Vinci Woman. The delicate piece is made from 925 sterling silver, coated with 24k gold, handmade "with love". There's even a matching bracelet. Priced from £22.

What's not to love about this Manta-Ray necklace by Brighton-based designosaurYEAH? Available in a galaxy, pearl and mirror gold acrylic, and hung from a silver-plated curb chain. As each piece is hand-poured, it means each necklace will be unique. Priced at £39.
