Duo of exhibitions celebrate the work of British artist Cedric Morris

In two upcoming exhibitions at the Garden Museum and Philip Mould & Company (both 18 April – 22 July 2018), the work of iconic artist Cedric Morris will be showcased with a particular focus on his landscape and plant paintings.

Cedric Morris: Beyond the Garden Wall will exhibit over twenty of the "finest examples" of Morris’ landscape paintings from 1908-1971. While Cedric Morris: Artist Plantsman consists of 34 paintings, the majority of which are on loan from private collections and have never been seen in public before.

David Bowie was said to be a fan of the artist, and a painting previously in his collection – Italian Hill Town (1922) – will be on show at Philip Mould & Company later this month.

Mentor of Lucian Freud, friends with social and artistic tastemakers such as Peggy Guggenheim and Elizabeth David, and – according to those closest to him – an artist who could rival Matisse, Cedric Morris was one of the most influential and assured British painters of the 20th century. Morris is unique in the fact that he achieved national stature both as a painter and plantsman.
