The Big Smoke presents abstract view of an alternate London

Vicky Broddle is an independent designer delivering bespoke design and editorials to various brands and audiences. At the end of 2016, Vicky was commissioned to create the artwork and visual identity for the next two years of releases on Sasha’s record label ‘Last Night On Earth’. Delivering a concept focusing on a "journey to the centre of the earth", Vicky created a subverted world, fleeting between reality and imagination.

Through her fragmented and dream-like approach, with splashes of colour contrasting an otherwise monochrome illustration of various urban scenes, her style and theory have now been applied to a larger personal project of London.

Tackling a kind of Gotham City version of the capital, her creation is a dystopian fantasy. Iconic landmarks are transformed into obscure realities. Tower Bridge becomes an adult’s playground with a swing between the two towers, and where forgotten club venue Public Life awakens its subterranean toilet for the ravers, Fabric is saved and dancers rejoice.

As the project continues, each A2 piece of the evolving cityscape will be available as a single limited-edition artwork, but they will join together to build the larger city, The Big Smoke. Check out the first releases of Vicky Broddle’s project here, and visit her website to see more.
