Intimate dramas with Julio Reyes, a painter that trained as a soccer player

Born in Hollywood and raised in Los Angeles, Julio Reyes’s artistic style was shaped early on by the sunlit, expansive horizons of southern California.

Written By:
A young woman with braided hair holding a delicate branch stands on a hillside overlooking a sprawling city at sunset, with power lines visible in the hazy distance

But it wasn't always this way. Growing up, Reyes was a talented athlete, destined for professional soccer. With a twist of fate, he decided to pursue art, instead. Julio earned a BFA in Painting and Drawing with a minor in Sculpture at the Laguna College of Art and Design in 2005.

His work depicts "intimate dramas; brief moments of unnoticed grandeur; tender souls grappling with the pressures of modern life, and a compassionate, thought-provoking vision of what it is to be, treading alone in the increasingly virtual and unsympathetic environment of our modern age".

You can certainly feel the intense drama of his work. Discover more on his portfolio.
