Glasgow studio Jamhot launches a new brand for Scotland’s North Uist Distillery Co.

Glasgow design studio Jamhot has launched a new brand identity for a new distillery based on the Hebridean Island of North Uist, founded by local duo Jonny Ingledew and Kate MacDonald.

Having grown up on the island, and progressed their careers on the mainland, the couple has returned to their Hebridean home to launch the North Uist Distillery Co. – the first-ever legal distillery on the island. Their first product is Downpour Gin – a Scottish dry gin with bold citrus and spice flavours made from natural island botanicals.

Jamhot collaborated with the distillery founders to develop the new brand strategy and positioning alongside the developing design and copy for the distillery as a whole and for the Downpour Gin launch materials including packaging, website, digital assets and launch campaign.

Taking inspiration from the distillery’s Hebridean surroundings and use of natural island ingredients, the brand is based on simplicity, plain speaking, quality materials and punches of colour and flavour.

Craig Laverty, creative partner at Jamhot says: "This has been a dream project to work on. Getting to develop a distillery brand from scratch, in partnership with the amazing founders who put their full trust in us creatively, has been an incredible experience.

"We wanted to use design and words to convey the special feeling you get when visiting the stunning Scottish Island and reflect the quality products the duo are producing – giving Kate and Jonny a strong brand with which to grow the distillery going forward. It’s been an exciting process and we’re delighted to launch it to the world."
