Bold and powerful portraits of women that explore the capabilities of the human mind
Through powerful and bold portraits of women, Indonesian artist Nugroho Wijayatmo explores both the limits and potentials of the human mind and its awareness to its surroundings. Using muted tones, warm highlights and acrylic on canvas, his paintings definitely draw inspiration from historical Japanese art with overlaid threads of gold and dark ink, offering an additional layer of interest.

The mixing of these two mediums brings a wealth of energy to his work, and although his subjects are feminine and stunning, Wijayatmo aims to capture the materialistic ills of our modern culture and the unrealistic expectations of physical beauty, brought on by the pressures of consumerism.
