A creative response to the coronavirus pandemic that tackles its surrounding xenophobia

Poster House in New York is usually devoted to celebrating the physical medium of print—but since it seems that all things tactile and IRL are pretty much out of bounds for the foreseeable, it's had to come up with other ways of showcasing the relationship between print, graphic design and real-world issues.

It's done this beautifully in collaboration with designer Rachel Gingrich, who's created a series of PSA digital posters to "encourage looking out for our fellow New Yorkers at this time," according to Poster House.

"As a museum, Poster House is dedicated to providing education to our community," says the institution. "In this time of unprecedented uncertainty and anxiety, we are finding ways to continue that mission. One of the first impacts of the Covid-19 epidemic in New York was increased xenophobia... We will need our whole community to get through this together.

A video series with Grace Young filmed in early March highlights the plight of small businesses and restaurants in Chinatown, which took an economic hit very early on compared to other places' shops and restaurants thanks to widespread xenophobia. The first instalment is shown here, with more videos being uploaded to the Poster House site in due course.
