The role
KQED, the San Francisco public media organisation, is hiring a Director, Brand to own its brand strategy. The post leads a brand renewal and KQED's first major brand campaign in more than ten years, oversees its sub-brands and manages the in-house Creative team. It sits in the Audience department at manager level and is a temporary role running until 31 December 2029.
What you'll do
- Define and develop the brand narrative, identity and architecture, and lead the renewal from strategy through to rollout
- Build support internally and present the brand strategy to staff across the organisation
- Oversee sub-brands across KQED's shows, content and experiences
- Hire a Brand Manager, oversee the handover from the current brand consultant and manage agency partners
- Lead a multi-year brand campaign from brief to go-to-market
- Align brand and performance marketing with the Director of Media/Marketing
- Oversee qualitative research and brand lift measurement with the research and insights team
- Manage the Creative team, set creative standards and make sure the brand is applied consistently on every channel
- Work with teams such as Product, Editorial and Membership, and lead cross-functional working groups and steering committees
About you
- 7 to 10 years in brand strategy or brand management, including building or evolving brands
- Experience leading integrated marketing campaigns, including agency management, budgets and production
- Experience managing creative teams and judging strategic and creative quality
- Expertise in positioning, messaging, narrative and brand governance
- A modern, community-led approach to brand
- Able to bring different functions into alignment
- Experience working with research teams, including focus groups, audience data and brand lift studies
- Strong communication and presentation skills at executive level
- Desirable: an appreciation of KQED's mission and of the Bay Area's communities
- Desirable: product marketing experience
- Desirable: experience at a for-profit media, entertainment or experiences company
