Graphic Designer & Illustrator

The role

A graphic design and illustration post in Discord's Creative Studio team, embedded with the Social team in the San Francisco Bay Area. You would make social and community content at speed, across illustration, graphic design and visual storytelling, often responding to community events as they happen.

What you'll do

• Design and illustrate social and community content, including platform graphics, campaign assets and reactive illustrations, in a range of styles covering characters, visual effects, objects and environments
• Turn cultural moments and community conversations into quick creative work, often to same-day or next-day deadlines
• Work with the Social team to give visual form to ideas, copy and campaign concepts
• Collaborate with illustrators, motion designers and brand designers to keep the visual voice consistent
• Handle several requests at once, set priorities and say early when timelines move
• Give and take feedback in critiques and reviews, and iterate under tight deadlines

About you

• A portfolio of expressive, well-crafted illustration and graphic design in several styles, ideally including fast-turnaround or social content
• At least two years of design or production experience in an in-house team, a social or content studio, or an agency, ideally in tech, gaming or entertainment
• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, with a strong sense of composition, colour, typography and visual hierarchy
• Able to work fast without losing quality, delivering finished work within hours or a day when needed
• Experience of working within brand guidelines
• Comfortable presenting concepts and explaining design decisions to cross-functional partners
• Able to take feedback, iterate and deliver production-ready assets that meet creative and technical requirements
• Nice to have: animation or motion design skills, and an understanding of how static work translates into motion
• Nice to have: proficiency in Figma
• Nice to have: a good feel for social content, including meme and gaming culture, and for how Discord can join online conversations authentically
