Vancouver Opera posters by Scott Bakal seem to sing to their own tune

Scott Bakal is an artist and illustrator who has recently completed these beautiful paintings to help advertise the Vancouver Opera, which include Tosca, Albert Herring, Don Giovanni and Don Carlo.

Speaking of the project, Scott said: "I didn’t know much about the opera so I had to take a crash course. After hours of research, I dove into the project with a newfound respect and excitement for the art form. But to create a single image from seeing such intense operas is quite daunting. Trying to encapsulate the mood and the subject matter in one image from something that provides unlimited visuals isn’t very easy. But it was a wonderful project nonetheless."

Since 1993 when he graduated from the School of Visual Arts in NYC, Scott has been creating art for print and exhibition. He received a Masters of Art from Syracuse University and also received a Master of Fine Arts from the Illustration program at the University of Hartford. Bakal has also won awards from the Society of Illustrators (Silver Medal), SILA, 3×3, The AltWeekly Awards, Association of Education Publishers, HOW International Design Competition, Spectrum, American Illustration, Creative Quarterly (Gold and Silver Medals) and Communication Arts and receiving the honour of being published as one of the 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide by Luerzer’s Archive.
