Knockout's identity for Bombay Bramble is a 'creative new expression of gin'

London agency Knockout is behind the identity and bottle design for Bombay Bramble, Bombay Sapphire's new ruby-red drink that blends the vapours from the drink brand's distilled London Dry Gin with a rich fruit infusion made from blackberries and raspberries.

This apparently more complex and time-consuming process allows the natural ingredients to shine and delivers a product that taps into the increasing popularity of gin over the last few years, particularly those pink gins that we tend to see all over Instagram. Bombay Bramble, however, hopes to answer to this rising demand with a significantly more refined, sophisticated spirit. This is where Knockout stepped in to help create its look and feel.

With "elegance and a touch of grandeur", Bombay Bramble is all about detail, so a berry bramble etched in rose-gold lies at the heart of the identity, immediately telling us about its flavour while creating a delicate frame that stands out on its packaging. Clear labels are used to "celebrate" the gin's ruby rich colour and add a jewel-like quality. The final touch is a deep red cap off-set by the scarlet ink on the neck label: a two-tone duality that signifies the blend of blackberry and raspberry.

"We were tasked to effectively create a new sub-brand, adding a new dimension to the Bombay portfolio with a flavoured gin that challenges all things pink," says Dominic Burke, founder at Knockout. "The design solution puts a twist on the existing architecture, reflecting Bombay Sapphire's renowned expertise whilst conveying the new proposition with a bit of intrigue and allure."

Knockout also supported the launch with the creation of a limited artist edition as part of the Bombay Bramble Ripe For Discovery campaign. Transforming the bottle into a canvas, the design features the work of three up-and-coming British creators – fine artist Alfie Kungu, print artist and painter Charlotte McDonald and printmaker Rose Electra Harris. Available exclusively at Selfridges, we'll also be able to personalise the bottle label for the perfect gift.
