Stone sculptured orbs by Carla Cascales Alimbau that look pleasingly soft and light

"I like my pieces to be a mix of my inspirations, from modernism and Japanese Wabi-sabi to organic shapes with geometry, and the beautiful imperfections of nature with the purity of polished materials," explains Carla Cascales Alimbau of her work, which includes a wealth of stunning sculptures, paintings, and designs.

In her latest series, Plier, the Barcelona artist and designer crafts stone powder sculptures that are hand-moulded. Almost like white balloons, the delicate aesthetic of these pieces would have you believe they're light and full of air. We especially love how they've been photographed, against the backdrop of her sunlit studio – many others agree, as the popularity of her Instagram account clearly demonstrates.

It gets better. Sustainability is a focus: "Most materials I use to build the sculptures are pieces that can no longer be used in industrial manufacturing, like broken or irregular parts of marble, wood or metal. I love to find beauty in discarded pieces and give them a new value."

Although Carla works on her own personal projects and exhibitions, she is also privately commissioned by architects and designers as well as select brands such as Nike, Uniqlo, Louis Vuitton, Lacoste and Facebook. Discover more at carlacascales.com.
