Bright, Pop Art inspired digital paintings of people in public and private by Mario Sughi

In his ongoing series of digital paintings, Italian artist Mario Sughi – aka nerosunero – gives us a bright and colourful insight into the world that inspires him. Often taking cues from the people he sees on his many travels, his almost voyeuristic artworks explore the human figure in its many forms.

From the dressed, and a huge focus on clothing and accessories, to the undressed – it's a British, Pop Art inspired feast of bold hues and interesting shapes. As Renato Barilli of the University of Bologna said: "The most striking aspect of Mario Sughi’s work to date is his profound love of the human figure, and of its description, in depicting the thousands of occasions when our bodies are on show, whether in public or in private.

"But we immediately need to qualify this preliminary statement: the artist is in no way enamoured of the flesh of which we are made. His interest does not lie in the need for our bodies to excrete, that is to say, in the well-used word pair, 'sweat and tears', and he does not allow these natural functions to predominate. Instead, he is focused on our clothes and on every other fashion accessory that is added to us, like a second skin, inevitably corrupted by the regurgitations of that first and natural skin, to which they are stuck like a polluted attribute."

Mario, who lives and works in Dublin, said: "I like to take walks in town or by the seaside, capturing people unawares with my camera and then taking inspiration from my photographs to create my paintings. A place to go, a place to rest, weekends and lying on the grass – these have formed the basis of some of my recent works."

All the works are digital paintings and available to purchase via www.nerosunero.org.
