Opening up as a male designer to tackle mental health, with Jordan Yates

Jordan Yates is a Manchester-based designer, illustrator and animator who's recently gone freelance and is also finding the time to give back to the creative community.

As well as navigating the world of self-employment, he's one of the co-founders of Design Recovery, a free event that gives people a "safe place" to talk openly about mental health.

We met Jordan to find out the story behind such a positive venture and chat about his experience with freelancing so far. We started off chatting about nostalgic sweets and our teeth, as he'd just been to the dentist. Plus his love of pies, the north of England and finding his place in the design world.

We personally found this super encouraging, funny and inspiring – listening to someone who is already doing so much for his local creative community. Please note, we met before social distancing was a thing; recorded in Manchester. You might find our discussion about mental health particularly helpful at this time.
