The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Head of Production to lead production across Art&Graft and manage our brilliant team of Producers.
You’ll have oversight across our full slate of live and upcoming work, making sure projects are properly scoped, resourced and delivered to the highest creative and commercial standards. You’ll support and develop our Producers, helping them solve problems, manage risk and make strong decisions around budgets, margins, schedules and teams.
You’ll be a senior production point of contact across our key client relationships, bringing continuity between projects and making sure new briefs transition smoothly into production.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone who can see the bigger picture while being happy to get into the detail when needed – helping us continually improve how we produce work and creating the conditions for our teams to do their best work.
Who you are
- An experienced production leader with a strong background in design, motion, animation and creative production.
- A supportive and generous people manager who knows how to get the best from Producers and help them develop.
- Commercially minded and confident with budgets, margins, forecasting and the financial realities of running creative productions.
- An excellent scoper – able to turn ambitious creative briefs into realistic teams, schedules and budgets.
- A trusted partner to clients, comfortable building strong relationships and handling difficult conversations when needed.
- Calm under pressure, with the experience and judgement to find a way through complex production challenges.
- Highly organised, with the ability to maintain oversight across multiple projects, teams and priorities without getting lost in the detail.
- Strategic and forward-thinking – able to spot risks, resource requirements and opportunities before they become urgent.
- Collaborative, positive and low-ego; happy to lead from the front and step in wherever needed.
- Passionate about great creative work and creating the conditions for teams to do their best work.
- Well connected within the creative industry, with a strong network of production and freelance talent.
- At least 10 years’ experience in creative production, including significant experience in a senior production leadership role.
What you'll do
Production Leadership
- Take overall responsibility for the smooth running of production across Art&Graft.
- Lead and develop the Producer team, maintaining visibility across live and upcoming projects and providing oversight, support and clear direction.
- Act as the senior production escalation point and ensure consistently high production standards across the studio.
Producer Management
- Line-manage and develop the Producer team through regular 1:1s, feedback and support.
- Create an environment in which Producers can operate with autonomy, develop their skills and take ownership while knowing when and how to escalate issues.
Project Oversight
- Maintain a studio-wide view of live and upcoming productions, identifying risks, capacity issues and potential problems early.
- Where needed, step in to directly produce or provide additional production cover during periods of high workload, Producer absence or particularly complex projects.
Budgeting, Scoping & Commercial Management
- Oversee the scoping and budgeting of new productions, working with Producers and creative leads to establish the right approach, team, schedule and cost.
- Review Producer budgets and take particular ownership of larger, more complex or commercially sensitive scopes.
- Maintain visibility of project margins across the studio, supporting Producers with overages, extensions, scope changes and commercial negotiations and ensuring projects remain commercially healthy throughout delivery.
Resourcing
- Maintain a studio-wide view of production capacity and upcoming resource requirements, working closely with Producers and Team Leads to ensure projects have the right teams at the right time.
- Help identify opportunities to move resources effectively between productions as schedules and priorities change.
Freelance Production
- Lead the sourcing, booking and management of freelance Producers when additional production capacity is required.
- Maintain and develop Art&Graft’s network of freelance production talent and help ensure consistency around freelance rates, bookings and ways of working.
Account & Client Leadership
Act as the senior production contact across Art&Graft’s key client accounts, providing continuity across multiple projects and Producers and ensuring knowledge and learnings are carried from one production to the next.
Take ownership of incoming production briefs from existing clients, helping define requirements and allocating projects to the appropriate Producer and team.
Support Producers with senior client conversations, negotiations, escalations and difficult project situations, ensuring clients experience Art&Graft as one joined-up production team.
Revenue & Production Forecasting
- Maintain an accurate view of secured and highly probable production revenue across the studio.
- Work with Producers to ensure project values, schedules, extensions and changes are accurately reflected in production forecasts and maintain visibility of how contracted revenue is distributed across the year.
- Provide accurate and timely production information to senior leadership and Finance, identifying potential gaps, peaks, resource requirements and changes in the production pipeline early.
New Business
Join new business conversations where detailed production expertise is required and help ensure opportunities transition smoothly from new business into production.
Evaluation
Ensure completed projects are reviewed to understand performance against budget, capture lessons learned and identify opportunities to improve future scopes, workflows and commercial performance.
Studio culture
Promote a calm, collaborative and solutions-focused production culture and effectively contribute to wider studio culture through participation within the Art&Graft Guilds.
