Tackling a lack of diversity in design, with Eve Warren & Anna Wanczyk

Graphic designers and good friends Eve Warren and Anna Wanczyk have recently joined forces to launch the first chapter in Yorkshire of Kerning the Gap, a community founded in 2015 to get more women into leadership roles in the design industry.

Eve currently works at Leeds design studio, Robot Food. She's got six years of experience in the industry and has previously freelanced and worked for people like Fieldwork in Manchester, Modern Designers, Studio Koto and In the Beginning. Anna is a graphic designer with over 14 years of experience. She was Head of Design at local creative agency Magpie until last summer when she decided to start her own studio.

Back in early March, before the days of lockdown and staying at home to save lives, we headed over the Pennines from Manchester to see them both at Duke Studios in Leeds. It was great to hear about their different career paths and see how they navigate the usual roller coaster of being a creative professional. We also talked about being women in the creative industries, sharing stories of what we'd encountered, and what we hope to see change.
