Emptied Gestures is an experiment in kinetic drawing by artist Heather Hansen.
In this series, she explores ways to download her movement directly onto paper, emptying gestures from one form to another. This basically means that Heather sits in the middle of a giant paper canvas with pieces of charcoal grasped in each hand.
She then moves her body in carefully choreographed gestures, leaving a permanent trace of her physical movements. Merging dance and visual art, the drawings are a way of Heather bringing together her two greatest loves and seem to celebrate symmetrical patterns often found in nature.
