The Five Things Book reveals over 100 creative people's five favourite things

The Five Things Book is a design-led, typographic book; revealing over 100 people's five favourite things; along with the stories behind why they love each thing. Created by Belfast-based graphic designer Paul McNally, this coffee table book contains many amazing graphic designers, writers, musicians and loads of other talented people.

Have you ever stopped to think about the amazing 'things' you surround yourself with, and why? Gadgets, clothing, cars, art, people, places – in our daily lives we are constantly surrounded by amazing things. These things provoke memories, create deep feelings of nostalgia and we become attached to them. What if you had to choose only five things, as your favourite things. What would they be? And, why those particular things?

Over the last year the Five Things project has been posing those exact questions to people from all over the world. Each person would supply a list of their five favourite things, along with the reason they chose that particular thing. The replies have been mesmerising; often poignant, emotive and at times, funny. These answers provide an insight into the lives of people from varying cultures, places and backgrounds

This project began in the first year of Paul McNally’s Masters degree and was solely web-based; with all submissions placed on the Five Things website. The copy was interesting and enjoyable to read, Paul felt it deserved to be showcased on a more traditional format also – in a self-published, coffee-table book.

That book, and also some products inspired by the book, will be crowd-funded using the popular platform Kickstarter.

The book contains many notable industry leaders from the fields of graphic design, photography, art and music – including Adrian Shaughnessy, Debbie Millman, Hamish Muir, Jessica Hische, Dan Rubin, Kristian Nairn and many more. Go support the project over on Kickstarter.
