Monzo is looking for a Senior Writer to support the teams working on loans, credit cards, overdrafts and other borrowing and credit projects. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract covering the Borrowing Writer while they are on caregiver leave. You'll also contribute to Monzo's wider Writing discipline, which sits within Marketing, helping to keep writing quality high right across the company.

What you'll be doing

  • Keeping writing quality high across Monzo's borrowing products

  • Working with cross-functional squads of engineers, designers, marketers and researchers

  • Helping other people improve their writing, and proving the value of good writing

  • Deciding which challenges to tackle with your team, and how

  • A typical day could see you collaborating with a Product Designer on some in-app screens

  • Collaborating with a Product Marketer on positioning and building messaging toolkits

  • Sitting in on user research sessions led by the Research team

  • Writing error messages with input from engineers

  • Editing legal wording alongside Monzo's in-house lawyers

What we're looking for

  • You understand borrowing and credit products well

  • You're a dab hand at "content design", "UX writing", "product writing"

  • You're allergic to useless jargon and over-complicated language

  • You know how to use data and research to guide your approach

  • You're okay bouncing between tasks on a daily basis

  • You're comfortable questioning a brief and helping people understand why your approach is the right one

  • Nice to have: you've done some training or coaching to help other people improve their writing, but this one's not essential

This isn't for you if

  • It's your first writing job – Monzo needs someone to hit the ground running

  • You're a journalist or ad writer

  • You're only really excited by brand and marketing stuff – that isn't the focus of this role

  • You prefer to spend most of your time working solo – writing here is a team sport

  • You like lots of top-down direction – you'll be expected to decide which challenges you tackle with your team

What's on offer

  • A base salary of £68,000 – £88,000, plus benefits

  • The chance to shape the role around what's good for you, and Monzo

  • Very flexible working – Monzo cares about what you do, not the minutes you work or where you do it

  • A learning budget of £1,000 a year for books, training courses and conferences

  • Health insurance and generous caregiving leave, plus a whole load of other benefits

Interview process

  • A call with a recruiter

  • Stage 1: a 30-minute call with the Hiring Manager

  • Stage 2: a take-home task, due within seven days

  • Stage 3: two interviews on Google Meet, each up to 60 minutes

  • The whole process takes around three to four weeks

Equal opportunities

Monzo is an equal opportunity employer and considers all applicants regardless of age, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, family status, national origin, veteran status, neurodiversity or disability. You can apply using your preferred name.

How to apply
