The role

This is a paid, part-time design internship with KQED's Creative team, an in-house agency that promotes KQED's content, services and community partnerships. The intern helps develop and maintain the visual system and voice of the KQED brand and produces graphic assets for the organisation's programmes. It runs from 19 January 2027 to 25 June 2027 at 16 hours a week.

What you'll do

  • Design and produce digital and print materials that follow the established branding
  • Follow brand guidelines and meet deadlines
  • Retouch and edit photos in Photoshop
  • Work in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) across a range of media
  • Develop design concepts with the team for internal clients in other departments
  • Collect feedback from the design team and apply it to refine the work
  • Help manage project and production timelines
  • Explain design choices to the team and to clients
  • Find and source photos and graphics
  • Get estimates from vendors and co-ordinate print orders
  • Prepare print-ready files for vendors

About you

  • Working towards a BFA in Graphic Design, or equivalent experience
  • An understanding of design fundamentals such as layout, typography, colour and composition
  • Familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) and Google apps (Docs, Slides)
  • Strong creative and analytical skills
  • Detail-minded and able to work independently
  • A strong portfolio of graphic design work
  • Desirable: interest in or knowledge of public media
  • Desirable: motion graphics and animation skills
  • Desirable: illustration and/or lettering skills
  • Desirable: familiarity with Adobe After Effects or Premiere Pro
  • Desirable: experience making HTML5 animated banner ads
