The role

Anthropic is hiring a copywriter to shape how its brand speaks to developers, an audience that quickly notices marketing that does not hold up. The work sits between Developer Relations' technical content and brand marketing. You will be part of a developer creative pod alongside a brand designer and a programme manager, with the Head of Copy and Content as craft lead. The role can be based in San Francisco or New York City.

What you'll do

  • Own the developer-facing version of brand campaigns, beginning with "Keep Thinking"
  • Create a developer voice and tone guide with Comms and Developer Relations, then turn it into templates
  • Own brand-led assets for developers, from event and campaign materials through to writing aimed at enterprise developers
  • Work with Developer Relations every day, acting as an embedded extension of that team
  • Write launch narratives and short-form copy that remain technically accurate
  • Lead copy for the developer creative pod, working with brand design and programme management
  • Work with Claude Code and developer marketing leadership on strategy
  • Present work, and the reasoning behind voice decisions, to Brand, Developer Relations, Comms and marketing
  • Handle feedback from technical reviewers and Comms
  • Follow how the work is received and use that to refine the voice, the templates and the work itself

About you

  • At least 8 years writing for developers or technical audiences, with a portfolio spanning technical and brand work
  • Work, made in-house or at an agency, that developers chose to share
  • A firm point of view, which you can explain, on how brands should talk to developers
  • Able to read a changelog or documentation page and tell whether a developer would trust it
  • Able to turn expert material into sharp copy without losing accuracy
  • Comfortable moving between technical content and pure brand writing
  • Use Claude or other AI models in your own writing practice
  • Enjoy being embedded with technical teams as a creative partner
  • Comfortable sharing ownership of standards and clear about where your remit ends
  • Motivated by Anthropic's mission to develop safe and beneficial AI
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • Nice to have: experience working directly with a Developer Relations or engineering team
  • Nice to have: having built or contributed to a voice guide, style system or templates used by others
  • Nice to have: writing for developer launches at a fast-moving product company
  • Nice to have: familiarity with the AI developer ecosystem, including coding tools and APIs
  • Nice to have: work that is credible to developers and also performs in enterprise or executive settings
  • Nice to have: a personal writing practice, newsletter or public body of work
  • Nice to have: experience adapting brand campaign systems for a sceptical or specialist audience

What's on offer

  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Optional equity donation matching
  • Generous holiday and parental leave
  • Flexible working hours
  • Office space for working alongside colleagues
  • Visa sponsorship is available, though not for every role or candidate

The process

  • Submit a CV or LinkedIn profile, with an optional cover letter
  • Answer a "Why Anthropic?" question, with 200 to 400 words suggested
  • Confirm the company's policy on AI use in applications and accept an arbitration agreement
  • Staff are expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time

The details

  • Salary: $200,000 – $255,000
  • Location: San Francisco; also open in New York. Hybrid, in the office at least 25% of the time
  • Level: senior (8+ years)
