The role
Joins the Opinion design team to redesign daily print pages with an identity distinct from the newsroom. The role combines typography, photography, data visualisation and commissioned illustration under daily deadlines.
What you'll do
- Take designs from concept to publication across print and digital
- Set visual direction with editors and photo editors
- Commission and art direct illustration
- Push layout through art placement and structure
- Write display copy and edit text for layout
- Manage projects in the Times' publishing systems
- Cover the Sunday section when needed
About you
- 5+ years' print and digital design experience leading editorial projects
- Proven art direction and visual editing under tight deadlines
- Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, pagination software and pre-press
- A cover letter is required
- Newsroom or media experience preferred
- Flexibility for nights and weekends preferred

- Salary: $124,979.94 – $141,000, with possible bonus and stock on top
- Location: New York, NY; in the office four days a week
- Level: senior (5+ years); a NewsGuild of New York union role
