Random is an experience design studio based in Amsterdam and Paris. Our work comes to life where the digital and the physical are fluid. We use technology in a human, tangible way, inviting people to connect with each other and the space they share.
What we're looking for
We're looking for a Senior Creative Lead who starts with the big question.
Before the space, before the technology, before any of it: what is this experience actually saying? What does this brand need to communicate, and what's the most compelling way to do that in a room, at an event, in a space someone walks into?
That's where this role begins. With a holistic communication concept, a brand storytelling idea that gives a project its reason for being. From there, it translates into spatial decisions, interactive moments, and technology choices. But those come second. The person we're looking for owns the full arc, from the strategic question to its specific expression.
We would like you to think from brand strategy to communication to experiential execution. In practice, that means someone like this might challenge a client's underlying ambition, build a creative communication strategy for a launch, and define a high-level concept for how a space should behave all within the same project.
If your strongest work is brand campaign films or advertising concepts, this isn't the right role. If you're interested in creating (spatial) brand experiences that make people feel something, invite them to explore, and make them wonder, please read on.
Core responsibilities
- Concept development: Lead the creative thinking on key projects from brief to concept. Write clear, strong debriefs that sharpen the question before anyone starts answering it. Develop brand storytelling ideas that are holistic not just a visual style, or just a content format, but an idea about what a brand experience should do and feel like and mean.
- Creative direction across projects: Translate concepts into creative direction for multi-disciplinary teams, spatial designers, creative technologists, motion designers, producers. Not by designing everything yourself, but by making sure the idea holds across every decision.
- Client relationships: Be the main creative voice with clients throughout a project. Present with clarity and conviction. Challenge briefs when they need challenging. Help clients understand the difference between an installation and an experience.
- Team leadership: Build and lead project teams, internal and freelance. Set creative standards, give useful feedback, create space for others to do good work. Lead by being present, specific and engaged —not a distant creative director.
- New business contribution: Contribute to pitches and proposals. Bring ideas to the table early in the process, when the thinking matters most.
What a concept means for us
We've learned to be specific about this because the word gets used to mean too many things.
A concept in this context is not:
- A sketch or a render
- A visual identity direction
- A campaign format or content type
- A technology idea
A concept is a brand storytelling idea. It answers the question: what is this experience about? The why. You can usually express it in a sentence or two. It generates decisions — about space, interaction, content, materiality, technology — rather than describing them.
The technology is a tool. The space is a medium. The concept is the reason any of it exists.
Your profile
- 8+ years of experience in creative roles within experiential, brand, or spatial work
- A portfolio of idea-led projects where you can clearly articulate what the concept was, where it came from, and how it shaped the final work
- Experience working across disciplines: spatial, digital, interactive, content
- Comfortable at the strategic level, able to read and challenge a brand brief, not just respond to it
- Strong presenter and communicator, in rooms that matter
- Experience leading teams and working with freelancers
- Has worked with global brands in lifestyle, fashion, luxury, or sport
- Based in or willing to relocate to Amsterdam or Paris
What we don't need more of
We've had talented people apply whose work is genuinely strong but in a different domain. To save everyone time:
This role is not well suited to people whose primary experience is in advertising, brand film, or content production. The thinking that makes someone good at a 30-second spot or a social campaign is different from what this role requires. Neither is better; they're just different.
What's missing, and what we're looking for, is someone who starts with an idea.
What success looks like
- You bring a clear concept to every project, an early one that the whole team can work from
- Clients trust your creative judgment, not just your execution
- The work feels like it has a point of view, not just a visual language
- Teams you lead know what they're aiming at and why
- You make the projects harder in the right ways, and easier in the wrong ones
